Intel have launched their 2010 Core processor family with the chip-maker saying its new i5 processors are “about twice as fast as comparable existing PCs” when it comes to video, photo and music downloading.

Aside from the i5, Intel has unveiled their Core i7 and i3 processors, wireless adapters and chipsets, Intel 5 Series chipsets, and Centrino Wi-Fi and WiMAX adapters.

The Core i7 and Core i5 processors feature exclusive ‘Turbo Boost Technology’, which automatically accelerates performance, adjusting the workload to give users an immediate performance boost when needed. It was also announced that the new processor family is the first to integrate graphics into mainstream PC processors, with Intel HD Graphics offering features such as high-definition (HD) video playback.

The 2010 Core processors are manufactured on the company’s 32nm process, which includes Intel’s second-generation high-k metal gate transistors. This technique, along with other advances, helps increase a computer’s speed while decreasing energy consumption.

“These smart processors adapt to an individual’s needs, automatically providing a ‘boost’ of performance for everyday applications. They become energy efficient to the point of shutting down processing cores or reducing power consumption to provide performance when people need it, and energy efficient when they don’t,” says Nassir Nauthoa, Intel General Manager for the GCC.

Other power-saving techniques include what Intel calls “hurry up and get idle” or “HUGI,” which enable processors to finish tasks quickly, while preserving battery life.
In terms of wireless Products and WiMAX; three new Intel Centrino wireless adapters feature advanced 802.11n multi-stream capabilities and dual-band support for WiFi, offering users up to 8 times greater speed while consuming minimal power.

All the adapters support Intel My WiFi Technology, which allows users to turn their laptop into a virtual hotspot and directly connect wireless devices to their laptop. Remote WiFi client management with Intel Embedded IT and Intel Active Management Technology 6.0 also helps enable remote client management for the enterprise.

Beyond laptops and desktops, the new processors are targeted at devices that leverage PC-like operations in the smarter connected world, including ticket kiosks and self check-out machines, ATMs, digital signs, medical equipment, communications gear and industrial machines.
